Department Functions

The Perry County Emergency Management Agencies are required by state law to prepare for, mitigate, and respond to all-hazard events. They act as the vital communication and resource link between local municipalities, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Core responsibilities for these county agencies include: Perry County EMA has one full time employee and volunteers. The agency has a total operating budget of $112, 259.00. Details of this budget can be found HERE.

  • Emergency Operations: Maintaining the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate resources, police, fire, and medical personnel during crises like severe weather or hazardous material spills.
  • Planning & Preparedness: Developing and updating the official Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and conducting a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis.
  • Public Alerts: Operating early warning systems (such as targeted mobile alerts utilizing mass texting services and mobile applications and social media platforms.
  • Training & Mitigation: Hosting emergency drills, training storm spotters, and overseeing disaster recovery efforts.
  • Exercise planning and development with local agencies and the private sector to better prepare for all hazards which may threaten the communities.
