Department Functions
The Perry County zoning department regulates land use, building construction, and property development within unincorporated areas. It generally manages zoning ordinances, permit applications, and processes requests for variances or rezoning as authorized. The Perry County Zoning department acts independent of the general fund and funds the operation with generated fees and grants.
Core Responsibilities
- Land Use Regulations: Sets rules for minimum lot sizes, building heights, property setbacks, and allowable uses (e.g., agricultural, residential, commercial, or industrial).
- Zoning Board of Appeals: Evaluates and processes petitions for variances, special use permits, and zoning amendments.
- Code Enforcement: Investigates and resolves complaints regarding zoning violations and public nuisances.
- Environmental & Special Regulations: Administers floodplain management, stormwater control, and agricultural exemptions.
